My Review – Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again !

Oliver Parker’s 2018 Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is the sequel to Mamma Mia!, which is known as a classic musical loved by most. The plot of the sequel follows Lily James playing the role of young ‘Donna’. Which, the performance of Donna felt a bit forced and cheesy.

Lily Collins as Donna

The character of Rosie was first played by Julie Walters and is now portrayed by Alexa Davies. Her character, however small, had a change in this film that could not help notice. I don’t remember Rosie having an addiction to cake in the first film. Also, the idea of three college graduates doing a dance number seemed all to High School Musical (2006) for me. The first film had dance numbers, but we bonded with the background actors/dancers for their human expressions, and it seemed it didn’t take itself too seriously.

The portrayal of Tanya was accurate, I only have one question. Would she not have changed her hairstyle after all those years? The plot is flowing other than that of the use of Cher’s character. At that point. I realised it was all glamour and had lost the film’s innocent charm. It has become flashy and overpowering.
